Botox Injections for Overactive Bladder

I am interested in knowing if anyone has had Botox injections for an overactive bladder. Did this treatment work? Did you have to self cath afterwards? Thank you.

Yes, worked pretty well for about 4 months. Didn’t need catheter with such a low dose.
If you have a health savings account make sure you get a medical necessity form from your FSA/HSA Bank and have the doctor fill it out before the procedure and get it sent into the bank so it isn’t rejected. I’m still out $500 because my urologist didn’t tell me about this first. Just saving you the headache.

I have had it a few times. It does last about 4 months and my urologist schedules the next one four months out. It takes all my pain away from Interstitial Cystitis, but doesn’t really help with the OAB. As long as I’m pain free, I can live with the frequency issue. Never had to cath. Medicare and my insurance cover the procedure every time. I do get sedated for it and the urologist also does a bladder distention and instillation at the same time. Botox has given me my life back by removing the pain.

yes, i have had it done for OAB ' It usually only lasts Three months for me. I dont need to cath , but i bleed heavy for about Two days. My Dr.just numbs me than inserts the botox. Good luck if you decide on one.

Hi there,

I had my first 100 units nearly a year ago and was impressed with the results albeit it only lasted a couple of months. I am due to have the full 300 unit dose next time and hoping it will be in September. First time I had it done under general anaesthetic and I said I will try the next one under local.i has to cath before the botox and continued after.

I’ve received Botox injections three times. They’re painful going in, but well worth the dreamy results. I didn’t have to self-cath before nor after Botox.

I had a bunch of Botox injections. The results were wonderful. The first was done under sedation but then it was so much easier to get it in the office. It was uncomfortable. I got 30 injections into my bladder. A couple were downright agonizing, but worth it for the relief, which was consistently three months. Then they stopped working. I did it several more times, trying to figure if I had infection or something, but to my regret, they just didn’t work any more. I remember being told of the risk I might have to self cath and being clear I would prefer it to the incontinence. I think my bladder is “stiff” now and it’s harder to start a stream.

It's amazing how different we are in regards needing to cath or not. My first 100ui injections were so good that I felt so tight down there, I couldn't pee to save my life. I felt like 30 years younger inside down there. Sadly it's all worn off now and I am left wanting to go every 30 minutes but hopefully getting booked in for September fingers crossed.
