Bedwetting while dreaming

I have an overactive bladder and was on Oxybutynin. There have been several occasions where I would be dreaming of searching for a bathroom and would usually wake up before actually finding a bathroom in my dream. However, this last time I dreamt that I found a bathroom and actually wet the bed. I did not wake up right away either. Needless to say I was extremely embarrassed! Why didn't I heed the cue in my dream that I needed to awaken to go to the bathroom? By the way, this occurred during a daytime nap. Puzzling to say the least. Any insights?

i have never wet in a dream but I subconciously know when I have already wet as my dreams are more vivid and very wiered once I have wet in my sleep.

Expect the unexpected if one is prone to incontinence at night.
Best wear night wear depends if it's happened more than once a night it feels like underwear
During a seated day nap think about either prepare with an absorbent pad or put on a heavy duty incontinence pad in underwear

This was very common in my childhood. Quite often I would be dreaming of being in the bathroom but in reality I was still in bed and would be wetting my diaper. I have heard this a few times from others. Not so common in adulthood, at least not for me.

I too have these dreams. On 4 occasions I found myself being awoken by my wife to find I had taken off my shorts and was peeing next to the bed! Very disconcerting and soul shaking to explain to your wife and then have to clean up at 4a!

Hi. I suffer from Nocturia a.k.a. Nocturnal Enuresis because nerve damage in my spine gives me the diagnosis of Neurogenic Bladder. It is well-established that your need to pee, or having already wet yourself, generates the dream, not the other way around. The dream does not make you pee.

I’ve never napped much since I was a toddler but napping is definitely out of the question unless I pre-plan and have a diaper on and am in my bed with my bedmats in place. When I first got the condition and was adapting, I once accidentally fell asleep, and wet, on my light grey couch. I’ve also fallen asleep in, and wet, my work chair a number of times.

If this has happened to you more than once, I recommend you see a urologist for a work-up and treatment. Have you recently had a spinal injury or fall, by chance?

Hello 5gr8kidz,

I dream like once a month; if that. To be fair, I can't even remember the last dream I had or could tell you anything about it.

If you haven't already taken it; I would recommend "Myrbetriq" for bladder control medicine - even though a majority of those who take it only see temporary results. It acts more like a cushion for time.

Definetly see a urologist - I don't think dreams really have a connection to bladder conditions as I don't dream and live with a bladder condition.

Take care,

@5gr8kidz On occasions I have had the so called pee dream. It usually is a dream where I have to pee really bad and I am trying to find a bathroom. The other variation is where I have to pee really bad but can't get to a bathroom like traveling down the highway waiting for the next rest area or exit.

As for end results if I wet myself in my dream I usually, not always, but usually wake up wet too.
the question I have is, was the dream my mind and body trying to warn me and wake me up before I peed, did the dream trigger me to bedwet, or did the dream come after I had already wet the bed and was triggered by my wet boxers.
