Doing searching on the web you see that ADHD, autism spectrum and incontinence can all be related.
Does anyone else been diagnosed with ADHD or autism spectrum hav incontinence and how do you handle it?

Well Hi there,

I have ADHD, ADD, OCD, and audio dyslexia. My incontinence only really started about 6 years ago though, I'm 30 now. As far as managing it, it depends on the day. I've tried meds and they didn't work, so I wear *whispers*, "diapers". Or pads/pull ups, just depends on my activity level or access to pee quickly.
I've looked at a lot of research as well, and there's connections to a lot of things that could cause incontinece everything from emotional/physical abuse, stress, hormones, Covid, your brain simply saying it's time for diapers again, etc.

Reach out if you ever want someone to listen or support. :) Bryce

I have both ADHD and Autism. I had a hard time potty training as a child not getting fully daytime trained til I was around 6 or 7. Still wet at night til I was like 16 and took me getting meds to stop that. Growing up I always had issues with knowing I had to go. I wouldn't really feel the need to go until everything was close to bursting on its own, but I mostly had control. In 2012 though I was in a car wreck and suffered a TBI. It caused some damage to the parts of the brain that process the signals to and from my bladder. I no longer feel the need to go at all, and the detrusor and sphincter muscles don't work in coordination the way they are supposed to. I have Neurogenic urinary incontinence with sphincter detrusor dyssynergia. Basically my detrusor muscle that squeezes the bladder doesn't really squeeze so much as lightly pulsate, and the sphincter muscles don't relax the way they are supposed to and allow the urine to leave the bladder. I think the ASD and ADHD may have attributed to this becoming an issue since I was already having difficulty with being able to feel when I needed to go, but the head trauma is kinda what finished it off. I deal with it on a day by day basis. I have botox injections into the urinary sphinter (which they put me under for) every 4 months to help keep the sphincter relaxed and allow urine to pass when needed. Other than that I basically just wear diapers 24/7 to contain leakage. It has its pros and cons, but after repeated UTIs from catheters I refused to do that anymore. Then they wanted to do the suprapubic catheter which I adamantly refused in house and even more so after doing research into it and seeing people's stories of dealing with that. Other than those the only options are the botox injections or a bladder sphincterotomy. I have seen lots of mixed stories on the sphincterotomy and even worse horror stories than with the suprapubic cath. Including people who go through all the pain involved just to have it not help at all or cause even more issues due to the possible side effects. Really hoping not to have to deal with that.

I have ADHD, OCD, depression, and severe anxiety. Sometimes the anxiety can give me a panic attack in which I lose all control of all bodily functions - but that’s rare. I was potty trained by nine months and never had any problems growing up nor as an adult. My primary incontinence symptoms come from Neurogenic Bladder, which occurred when I severed most of the nerves between my spine and my bladder when I fell down a cliff. I handle it by using pull-ups at night and using bedpads, and getting quarterly Botox injections, which are a true lifesaver. Also, I just get emotionally used to it with time. It’s been nine years now. Giving up on dating has made life much harder overall but has made dealing with my Nocturia incontinence privately much easier.

I also have Autism, Adhd, Anxiety and depression, and PTSD from past relationships. I was not day trained until 6 and wore diapers to Kindergarten. I was a bedwetter until 8. I started have day and night accidents when i turned 45 (now 57).

@docein
So what kinda diapers or protection do you use. I was a bed wetter as a child and teen. Start wetting at night and wearing diapers about 12 years ago. I have always had sudden urge issues.

I use MegaMax for daytime use with plastic pants, as i have urge and fecal incontinence. I used to use them at night also. But, as couple of years ago, i tried cloth at night. I found i sleep better at night in cloth and have better bed protection as i am a side sleeper.
