6 weeks post prostatectomy

Ok, so very little improvement with dripping every time I get up from a sitting position. Getting angry and frustrated and find myself just sitting because at least I am not getting wet! Just venting here…depression seems to be just knocking at the door…. Does or did anyone have pain on their right side after 6 weeks or have pain lying on their side?

I did not experience any pain after my prostatectomy. Keep doing Kegel exercises and try to walk as much as possible - they will help you to build your pelvic floor muscle, which will control the leaking. Hang in there! Things seem to move very slowly at first and then many show a lot of improvement. It's going to take a couple of months for real improvement to be seen. Talk to your doctor about the pain.
Good luck!

Yes, depression knocks....and sometimes pounds at the door. In the beginning I used to feel, "I'll never get better". I hated the leaking and the gushes when I stood up. But just like everybody said....I got better. I'm 11 months post and am finally starting to feel like my old self. It's wonderful! Read good books, listen to motivational You Tube and Podcasts. I'm reading a book now, "Beyond Order" by Jordan B Peterson. If you read about his depression & life experiences in the past 2+ years, you'll be thankful for what you're dealing with now. It's all perspective. You're going to make it! Hang in there. God bless

I leaks as you for 4 months at 6 to 7 pull ups a day. Now at 7 months, I hardly fill a medium pad in a day. I can go without a pad the 1st half of the day, but when the pelvic floor gets tired, a little more minor leaking.
Things get better in time. I'm 72 and had 1/2 the nerve bundle removed with the prostate. So I may take linger for me then younger men with total nerve sparring

I experienced what you are saying. Sitting was the only time I had some control. I had the depression. Walking was my exercise which was accompanied by constant leakage. Other than that I wasn't doing much. Gained about 10 pounds. It was a bad time. My surgery was in Aug 2019 and I didn't get back to my regular exercise until Dec 2019. Leakage was still an issue but I decided I need to get back to a somewhat normal routine. I used pads to absorb the leakage and kept on going. I still use pads but consider my daily routine to be about the same as pre-surgery. The depression left. Leakage is minor but still there. My exercise is daily stationary cycling for an hour. I lost the 10 pounds I put on post surgery and have lost an additional 10 pounds so I am below my pre-surgery weight. I posted on this site from time to time and received much encouragement. Things started getting better when I decided I wanted to get as close to normal as I was able.

Thanks I am 67 and also had 1/2 the nerve bundle removed. Feels never ending so this does help. Thanks for your progress update

I know it isn’t much consolation but at 6 weeks you are on course with a normal recovery. What I found was I couldn’t measure progress in tracking day to day improvements but as I look back over the past week I could see some improvements.

Again my experience was seeing improvement first in less leakage over night. Then less and less until I’m mostly dry in the morning. Doesn’t mean I’m not making periodic trips to the bathroom at night but could tell that I was making progress.

Next was seeing more bladder control in the morning hours. As the day progresses or I was more active I experienced more leakage in the afternoons.

I can see progress but not completely dry yet.

I deliberately have left timelines off this as each of us recover differently and don’t want you to think you are behind wheee you should but but to give you some ideas on how someone else after RP is recovering.

Hang in there. It does get better.

Thanks progress is so slow. I have experience some improvement… drier at night but still frequent bathroom trips.

Jokar1, I had 65% of my prostate removed via green light laser on March 4. I still pee when I stand up from a chair, get out of a car and get out of bed, but not as much as in the past. I still leak when I sneeze or fart, but that's lessening, too. Your kidneys release waste every 10 to 15 seconds which explains why it builds up while your seated. As someone stated, don't measure by the days. Think of your recovery time as a marathon, not a sprint. Best wishes to you.

Ian six months out from my surgery. At six weeks I was very disheartened. As others have said progress is slow at first. That accompanied by wanting to be like we were before surgery makes time slow down and improvement seem even slower.

Everyone is different, but i was assured I would have a very different outlook at 12 weeks and I did. Now at six months I still don’t know if I will be like I was before surgery. I do know this a positive attitude goes a long way. Exercise, walk, wear pads, stay hydrated but hydrate slowly. Get out as much as you feel like just take precautions. That wards off the big “D” word.

Hang in there and celebrate improvement as it comes. It’s worth it. If you are very concerned, express those concerns to your doctor.

Best wishes.
